Connect or Import an Existing Wallet in Guarda

Already have a crypto wallet? Great, you don't have to start all over. Guarda lets you import an existing wallet using your Mnemonic, also known as a Seed Phrase or Recovery Phrase. It's a sequence of 12 or 24 words that gives you ultimate access to your wallet.

You could import your wallet every other day, if you wished, but nothing moves on the blockchain. Your cryptocurrencies stay exactly where they are. You're simply using Guarda instead of your previous wallet to access the same blockchain accounts, like logging into your email from a different app. The inbox is still the same.

Before You Begin

First, you'll need your current wallet's mnemonic. You can usually find it at the Settings, Security, or Backup section. The best-case scenario is that you wrote down your recovery phrase when you created that wallet and stored it somewhere safe. Every wallet is a little different, so it’s easier to follow your current wallet provider's instructions on how to locate and export your recovery phrase and other credentials:

Keep your recovery phrase private. Anyone who knows it can access your wallet. Never share it with anyone, including people claiming to represent Guarda. Our support team will never ask for your recovery phrase.

Import a Wallet Using Your Mnemonic

Importing a wallet with a mnemonic is the quickest and easiest way to start using Guarda with your existing accounts.

Before you begin, make sure:

  • You have your 12- or 24-word mnemonic ready.
  • You're in a private, secure place where nobody can see your screen.
  • Your mnemonic is written in English.

To import your wallet:

  1. Open Guarda and go to Settings.
  2. Select Import.
  3. Choose the wallet you want to import (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, etc).
  4. Enter your 12 or 24-word recovery phrase in the correct order.
  5. You’ve created a new wallet inside Guarrda! Download an updated backup and rename the wallet if needed.

Once the import is complete, Guarda will recreate your wallet and display your supported accounts. Your assets will appear after the wallet synchronizes with their respective blockchain networks.

Import Using Other Methods

There are other options too. If you don't have a Mnemonic on hand, you can still import your wallet with:

  • Private key
  • WIF
  • JSON file
  • xprv

The steps are similar:

  1. Open Guarda Settings
  2. Select Import
  3. Enter your wallet data into the input field.
  4. Complete the setup

Don't Have Your Wallet Credentials?

Without your mnemonic, private key, or other wallet data, Guarda can't import your existing wallet. If you still have access to your current wallet, check whether you can reveal or back up your credentials from the wallet's security settings before switching. If you no longer have access to both your wallet and your backup data, unfortunately, your wallet can't be recovered.
