How to Connect a Ledger Hardware Wallet to Guarda

When you connect your Ledger hardware wallet to Guarda, you can manage your crypto through a software interface and keep your private keys exactly where they belong. Far away from any malware or hackers. Offline. As you can tell, we sincerely encourage you to have one, especially if you're planning to store cryptocurrency for a long time.

Before You Begin

1. Update your Ledger firmware to the latest version.
2. Install the latest version of Ledger Live.
3. Update your web browser.
4. Update the Guarda Wallet.
5. Close Ledger Live before connecting your Ledger to Guarda, since both apps can interfere with each other.

You connect your Ledger wallet to Guarda, not your existing Guarda wallet to the Ledger. The Ledger protects only the private keys it generated itself. Those private keys have never connected to the internet. At the end of the day, Guarda’s encryption is strong, but physical barriers are stronger.

Connect Your Ledger to Guarda

Now we are ready!

Step 1. Connect and unlock your Ledger

Connect your Ledger to your computer using a USB cable. Enter your PIN to unlock the device.

Step 2. Select the cryptocurrency in Ledger

Open the crypto you are going to use.

Step 3. Open the Ledger connection in Guarda

Open Guarda Wallet on desktop.

Click (+) Create new or connect hardware — Hardware tab — Ledger.

Step 4. Select the cryptocurrency in Guarda

Choose the same cryptocurrency in Guarda that you've already opened on your Ledger.

Step 5. Approve the connection

When your browser asks for permission to access your Ledger, approve the request. Guarda will automatically connect with your device securely.

Step 6. Import your wallets

Wait while Guarda scans your Ledger and detects available wallet addresses. Review the detected wallets and their balances, select the ones you want to import, and click Add Accounts. Guarda will add the selected wallets to your wallet list.

Send Transactions with Ledger

Create transactions in Guarda as usual. When you're ready to send cryptocurrency, Guarda prepares the transaction and sends it to your Ledger for approval.

1. Review the recipient address, network, and amount on your Ledger screen.
2. Confirm the transaction on the device.
3. Ledger signs the transaction internally and returns it to Guarda, which broadcasts it to the blockchain.

Your private keys never leave the Ledger device.

If Guarda can't detect your Ledger

If Guarda can't detect your Ledger or the connection fails, check that you:

• installed the latest Ledger firmware;
• updated your browser;
• updated the cryptocurrency app on your Ledger;
• closed Ledger Live completely;
• connected the device with a USB cable, not Bluetooth;
• unlocked the Ledger;
• opened the correct cryptocurrency on the device;
• enabled Blind Signing if the operation requires it.
