How to Stake TRON (TRX) in Guarda
Staking TRX lets you receive resources you can use for transactions on the TRON network while also earning voting rewards. The mechanics are different from networks where you delegate crypto to a validator. Resources help cover the costs of your blockchain activity, while voting power lets you vote for Super Representatives—the elected block producers on TRON.
In Guarda, open your TRON Wallet and select the Stake tab to start staking. Before applying the stake, you need to choose the Super Representative (SR) you want to support with your voting power.
Before you start, keep in mind that unstaking TRX isn't immediate. Under TRON Stake 2.0, you need to wait 14 days before unstaked TRX becomes available. Guarda shows how many days are left in the interface. Once the waiting period ends, the Withdraw button appears, allowing you to return the unstaked TRX to your available balance.
Before You Stake TRX in Guarda
- Supported platform: TRX staking is available via Web, Desktop and Mobile apps.
- Funded TRON wallet: You need TRX in your Guarda wallet before you can stake.
- Minimum staking amount: The TRON network supports Stake 2.0 operations starting from 1 TRX, so you can’t stake less than 1 TRX in Guarda either.
- Available TRX for fees: Keep some TRX unstaked in your available balance to cover network fees and other transactions.
- Choose the right staking option: Guarda offers Regular Staking and Stake & Delegate for TRX. With Regular Staking, you stake TRX, choose a Super Representative, and use the resulting voting power to support that SR. Stake & Delegate also lets you delegate the Energy generated by your stake for extra rewards.
- Wallet backup: Make sure you have securely backed up your Guarda wallet before staking. Never share your private keys or backup file with anyone.
How to Stake TRX in Guarda Wallet
To stake TRX in Guarda:
- Open Guarda Wallet and go to your TRON (TRX) Wallet.
- Select the “Stake” tab.
- Enter the amount of TRX you want to stake, starting with 1 TRX. You’ll see Estimated Rewards for that amount.
- Choose the Representative you want to vote for. GuardaWallet is one of the available Super Representatives. The estimated APR is shown next to the SR’s name. The list of SRs comes directly from the TRON blockchain.
- Choose whether you want to receive Bandwidth or Energy from your stake. Click “Continue.”
- Review the staking details and click “Confirm” to apply the stake.
- Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the TRON network. Your active stake will then appear in the Stake section of your TRON Wallet.
Your TRX is now staked, and your TRON Power supports the Super Representative you selected. You can manage your stake, delegate resources, claim rewards, and later start unstaking from the same Stake section.
How to Stake & Delegate
With Stake & Delegate, you stake TRX and delegate the Energy generated by that stake for additional rewards. Delegating Energy does not transfer your TRX or voting power to another account. Your TRX remains staked under your account, while the delegated Energy becomes available for other users to rent. Stake & Delegate is currently available in Guarda Web and Desktop app.
The Energy reward is 7% and is paid once every 3 months if your Energy remains delegated for at least 14 days. The longer you keep them delegated, the more rewards you can earn. If you withdraw earlier, you lose the Energy reward for that period.
To stake and delegate TRX in Guarda:
- Open Guarda Wallet and go to your TRON (TRX) Wallet.
- Select the “Delegate” tab.
- Choose “Stake & Delegate.”
- Enter the amount of TRX you want to stake, starting with 1 TRX. Click “Next.”
- Review the staking and delegation details.
- Click “Confirm” to apply the stake and delegate the selected resources.
- Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the TRON network. Your stake and delegated resources will then appear in the Stake section of your TRON Wallet.
What Do I Get From Staking TRX?
Staking gives you three things:
- Bandwidth or Energy to use on the TRON network.
- TRON Power to vote for Super Representatives.
- Potential voting rewards when you use that voting power.
Part of staking’s purpose is to provide resources for using TRON and give TRX holders a role in selecting the network's block producers. When staking, you choose which network resource you want to receive: Bandwidth or Energy.
Bandwidth is consumed by regular blockchain transactions based on their size. Every activated TRON account receives 600 free Bandwidth per day, and you can get additional Bandwidth by staking TRX. Bandwidth obtained through staking recovers over a 24-hour period after use.
Energy is used to execute smart contracts, including operations with TRC-20 tokens. Unlike Bandwidth, Energy doesn't have a free daily allowance. You can get it by staking TRX or receiving delegated Energy from another account. Energy obtained through staking recovers over a 24-hour period, just as Bandwidth.
If you don't have enough resources for a transaction, TRON can burn TRX from your balance to cover the remaining cost.
Staking TRX gives you TRON Power (TP) in addition to Bandwidth or Energy. You receive 1 TP for every 1 TRX staked. TRON Power is voting power. You can use it to vote for Super Representatives (SRs)—elected participants responsible for producing blocks and participating in TRON governance.
Why Should I Vote for a Super Representative?
Staking alone doesn't earn voting rewards in TRX. Staking gives you TRON Power, but it doesn't automatically assign that voting power to an SR. To earn voting rewards, you have to choose which Super Representative your TRON Power supports.
TRON uses Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), with 27 Super Representatives elected to produce blocks. As a TRX holder, you don't need to become an SR yourself. Instead, you can use the TRON Power received from staking to vote for one.
This choice has actual consequences: TRX holders' votes determine which SRs participate in running the network, and SRs also vote on TRON governance proposals. SR candidates can offer different reward conditions and play an actual role in running and governing the TRON network.
Guarda shows an estimated APR (Annual Percentage Rate) next to each Super Representative. It does not currently display the SR’s brokerage ratio, total vote count, ranking, or block-production history. You can review these additional metrics on TRONSCAN before choosing an SR.
Staking doesn't transfer ownership of your TRX to the Super Representative you vote for. However, your voting power comes from your stake. When you unstake TRX, the corresponding TRON Power is removed, and the votes associated with that TRON Power are removed as well. The Bandwidth or Energy associated with the unstaked amount is also reduced.
How to Earn and Claim TRX Staking Rewards
TRX staking doesn't have one permanently fixed reward percentage. Voting rewards depend on the TRON reward mechanism, your voting power, and the Super Representative you vote for. As these conditions change, the return you receive can change too.
To check and claim your TRX staking rewards in Guarda:
- Open Guarda Wallet and go to your TRON (TRX) Wallet.
- Select the “Stake” tab.
- Go to your active TRX stake.
- Check the rewards shown for your stake. These rewards remain separate from your available TRX balance until you claim them.
- Click “Claim” when you want to move the accumulated rewards to your available balance.
- Review the transaction details including network fees and confirm the claim.
- Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the TRON network. The claimed TRX will then appear in your available balance.
In Guarda, you can claim accumulated TRX staking rewards once per day. If the reward amount or estimated return changes over time, this doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with your stake. TRX voting rewards can change depending on your voting power, the Super Representative you support, and current network conditions.
How to Unstake and Withdraw TRX
Under TRON Stake 2.0, unstaking and withdrawing are two separate stages. First, you unstake your TRX and wait 14 days. Once the waiting period ends, you can withdraw the TRX back to your available balance. The 14-day period is a rule of the TRON network rather than a delay introduced by Guarda. If you have delegated Energy from the stake you want to unstake, you need to undelegate the resources first.
Stage 1: Unstake TRX
- Open Guarda Wallet and go to your TRON (TRX) Wallet.
- Select the “Stake” tab.
- Choose the active stake you want to unstake.
- If its resources are currently delegated, undelegate the resources first.
- Click “Unstake” and enter the amount of TRX you want to unstake.
- Review the transaction details and confirm the unstaking transaction.
- Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the TRON network. The 14-day waiting period starts after you unstake. Guarda shows how many days are left before your TRX becomes available for withdrawal.
When you unstake TRX, the TRON Power associated with that amount is removed, along with the corresponding votes. The Bandwidth or Energy generated by that part of your stake also decreases.
Stage 2: Withdraw TRX
- Wait until the 14-day period ends. You cannot withdraw the unstaked TRX to your available balance before this period is complete.
- Once the waiting period ends, the “Withdraw” button appears in Guarda.
- Click “Withdraw” and review the transaction details.
- Confirm the withdrawal and wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the TRON network.
- Your TRX will return to your available balance and can be used normally again.
TRON Staking Dictionary: Terms That Work Differently on TRON
If you already know staking from Cosmos, Cardano, or another PoS network, some familiar terms describe different actions on TRON.
Delegation
This is one of the easiest TRON terms to misunderstand. On TRON Stake 2.0, delegation means giving Bandwidth or Energy generated by your stake to another TRON account. The underlying TRX remains staked under your account. You can delegate Bandwidth or Energy, but you cannot delegate TRON Power or your voting rights.
Stake
On TRON, staking means locking TRX with the network to receive resources and voting power. When you stake, you choose which resource you want to receive: Bandwidth or Energy. These resources help cover transaction costs and recover after use. For every 1 TRX staked, you receive 1 TRON Power. Staking itself does not automatically assign your TRON Power to a Super Representative. If you want voting rewards in TRX, you still need to use that TRON Power to vote. In Guarda, you choose the SR to vote for before applying the stake.
Super Representative (SR)
A Super Representative is one of the 27 elected block producers currently responsible for producing blocks on TRON. This is TRON's equivalent of the block-producing validators used by many PoS networks. TRX holders use their TRON Power to help determine which candidates occupy those positions. SRs also participate in TRON governance, including voting on network proposals. SR voting is different from user voting: users vote for SRs, while SRs vote on network proposals.
Voting
Voting as a user means using your TRON Power to support one or more Super Representatives. Staking TRX creates the voting power; voting decides which SRs you support with it. If you stake TRX but don't vote, you can still use the Bandwidth or Energy generated by the stake, but unused TRON Power does not earn voting rewards in TRX.
Voting Rewards
Voting rewards are TRX rewards associated with using your TRON Power to vote for Super Representatives or eligible SR Partners (they occupy positions 28–127 in the vote ranking and do not produce blocks but still can participate in the voting-reward system). Voting rewards are TRON's closest equivalent to the staking rewards you may know from other PoS networks.
Withdraw
On TRON, unstake and withdraw are separate stages. First, you unstake and start the 14-day waiting period. Once it has finished, the matured TRX can be withdrawn back into the spendable account balance. If you have delegated Energy from the stake you want to unstake, you need to undelegate the resources first.
